MICKIA MILLS APPOINTED AS CORONER

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, 12 September 2023 – Ms. Mickia Mills, is the Turks and Caicos Islands first Coroner and she brings an impressive nine years of legal expertise to her new role. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, and a Legal Education Certificate from the esteemed Hugh Wooding Law School, where she was also trained in Alternative Dispute Resolution. 

In 2013, Ms. Mills commenced work as an Associate with Nisbett’s Legal Chambers, in St. Kitts and Nevis, specializing in both civil and criminal litigation. She specialized in serious crimes, notably handling complex cases such as murder and sexual assault.

Since 2022, Ms. Mills has held the esteemed position of Senior Public Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, handling a diverse portfolio including customs and immigration cases.

Ms. Mills also contributes to training initiatives, notable among which was her presentation at the Prosecutors Empowerment Programme during their regional training initiative. Ms. Mills was used as a faculty member of the Judicial Education Institute in the conduct of police training on the subject “Making Investigations Trial Ready.”

Her passion lies in seamlessly integrating technology into court presentations.

One of Ms. Mills’ most commendable qualities is her unwavering dedication to witness and victim management. Ensuring their access to vital resources such as counseling and tailored support reflects her genuine concern for the well-being and equitable treatment of all individuals involved in legal proceedings.

These equip her for her new role as Coroner.
